On September 30 2021, Kyutech doctoral student Mr. Hiroki Hanate (Matsuhira laboratory, Department of Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering) received the Prize of “Best Poster presentation" at the International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems 2020/21 (SCES2020/21).
This poster presentation revealed that the order parameter of the phase transition at 105K of iridium oxide Ca5Ir3O12 was clarified by inelastic X-ray scattering experiments at synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8, in the collaborative research of Kyutech, Hiroshima University, Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI), and the University of Tokyo. This research group detected a very weak structural change associated with a "hidden order" at 105K by a high-precision inelastic X-ray scattering experiment for the first time in the world. Analyzing the characteristics of the change, it was clarified that the order parameter is characterized by the degree of freedom of rotation and orientation on the atomic scale.
*SCES is held annually as one of the major international conferences in the field of strongly correlated electron systems. It was scheduled in Guaruja (Brazil) last year, but had been postponed for one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was held online this year (Brazil). There were 462 participants from 32 countries and regions, and 15 poster presentations out of 146 received the “Poster Awards”.
